How to Decorate with Taper Candles
Create a cozy home by learning how to decorate with taper candles. They come in all different sizes, textures, and colors to easily coordinate with any space.
I think we can all agree that candles create instant cozy. They are an essential part of making your home feel warm and inviting, in all their scents, colors, sizes, and textures.
Taper candles however, create cozy, but with a timeless style.
How to decorate with taper candles is pretty easy, and elevates your space in the simplest of ways. Which is why they are one of my absolute favorite decor accessories.
If you look back on my past posts over the years, you will most certainly find candlesticks and taper candles everywhere in our home. I consider them a staple, and they definitely aren’t going anywhere!
The Many Styles of Taper Candles
Like any other home decor staple, taper candles come in a variety of different scents, colors, sizes, and textures.
We’re not just talking about your typical white, smooth, run of the mill taper (even though the plain Jane ones are equally as great), but you can find one to fit any category of look that you want.
When it comes to decorating, I don’t care much about the taper candles scent as I do the look. I think most are fragrance-free anyways.
Taper Candle Colors
Color is typically the first thing I look for. I love changing out colors with the seasons and holidays. Warm ones for fall and winter, light ones for spring and summer.
Also you can use beeswax ones all year long, because they are just so good. They give a natural yellow/brownish color that goes great any time of the year.
My go-to colors for decorating are cream, olive green, any color brown, and gray. Neutrals, naturally!
The Texture and Style of Taper Candles
Texture is another aspect, but to me is just an added bonus to a good color. Ribbed taper candles have become very popular right now, and for good reason. They definitely elevate the taper candles look and make it more stylish.
Most of the ones I use are just your typical smooth ones. I like to add the style in with the actual candle holder or candlestick.
Other textures and styles may include spiral, twisted, honeycombed, hobnail, patterned, and of course your specialty shaped ones for the holidays.
Don’t sleep on those Halloween ghost and Christmas tree shaped tapers!
Different Sizes of Taper Candles
Taper candles come in all different lengths and thickness. You can get tiny ones or huge ones, it just all depends on the look and style you want.
I’ve used them all, and it’s nice to have a small collection to meet your needs whenever you go to pull tapers for a look or event.
How to Style and Decorate with Taper Candles
The most common way to style a taper candle is in a candlestick. Candlesticks are on my “always buy” list when out shopping. If I find a good, timeless, usually vintage one, I grab it.
My favorite candlesticks are vintage brass ones you can find at just about any antique mall, wooden ones, and simple black ones. I make sure sure if they come in a set of more than two that they have staggered heights.
I place a pair on any end table, nightstand, or bookshelf. Stagger on a set of books, next to large vase of flowers or greenery, pretty much anywhere is fair game.
Another way to display taper candles if just by putting them in some kind of vessel like a glass jar or vase. The collection of them alone are artwork in my opinion.
Decorating for the Holidays with Taper Candles
Since taper candles are a timeless home decor accessory that has already stood the test of time, it would be remiss to leave them out of holiday styling.
I’ve styled a lot of table scapes over the ten years I’ve had this blog, and taper candles are the first thing I pull. I feel like a dining table is their true home, even though I scatter them all over my house!
Create a cluster, pop them in the top of a bottle, use your favorite candlesticks or candle holders to add them around for fall or Christmas. They make a huge statement for the little space them take up.
And I think it’s important to mention, most are smokeless and dripless, so if you think they are messy with wax dripping, they aren’t! Honestly most of time I leave them unlit.
As you clearly can see, these candles are timeless, and they add so much character and charm to any space. So maybe next time you go to grab a large chunky jar candle, try switching them out for these little beauties!

Could you tell me where you purchased some of the candleholders? I love them all!
Of course! The black ones are from Ikea, they come in a pack of three. The rest are thrifted!
