Create a beautiful burgundy, brown, and cream Christmas tree for a more natural look this holiday season. Add in some brass and velvet details to elevate the look.

Christmas is a week away. Even typing that is strange to me! Is it just me, or has this holiday season seemed kind of off with Thanksgiving being so late last month?

If I’m being completely honest, I moved my Christmas totes back downstairs just yesterday! I was still decorating but finally said, good enough.

I feel like you can keep adding and adding and adding, and it will never be too much, because Christmas is just magical like that. So there comes a point where you just have to leave it and enjoy.

My kids are about to be on winter break, today is really the last day that I have where they are both in school and daycare. So after I hit publish on this post, I’m going to head out and maybe roam an antique mall or something.

Calm before the chaos right?

There are going to be a lot of changes coming this next year (like mama going back to work), so I want to really soak in this holiday break with my family, and I hope you all do as well!

Christmas Tree Colors

This season, I didn’t stray too far from my normal every year decor. I like having a spot for everything, and not having to reinvent the wheel every single year with new stuff.

Two of the main things that decide my color scheme each year are found in either ribbon, or wrapping paper.

I found this deep burgundy-ish velvet ribbon from Hobby Lobby and that decided my color this season. It’s actually called Russet, and it is the perfect Christmas color.

I added my typically tree decor – wood bead garland, brass bells, wooden ornaments, smaller mercury balls, and then I also found some velvet brown and cream colored ball ornaments that will be perfect to reuse each year.

And my favorite tree embellishment of them all is adding ribbon.

Wrapping Paper as Decor

I always say, wrapping paper is Christmas decor too. I absolutely love finding new wrapping paper themes each year. I may be an absolutely awful wrapper, but I can hide that with the toppers.

This year I went super simple and just added twine. I put the name tags on the back of the gifts just to keep everything looking less cluttered.

Don’t worry, my girls wrapping paper is loud and colorful and will have those cheap fun bows that you just slap on.

The End of an Era

I have this feeling in my gut that this tree may be the last of my color coordinated, perfectly picked ornaments, curated tree. Next year I want handmade kid ornaments, mismatched colors, and just the craziness of a family tree holding years worth of memories.

And that might even go for the rest of my house too. I just want less “matchy-matchy,” more homey. Does that make since?

Don’t get me wrong, I love doing these simple designed trees every year. They look beautiful. But my momma heart is changing how I want this home of ours to feel.

But, more on all that later my friends.

  1. You will be so happy you started a new tradition. I did the same, starting with my kids (45 years ago) and now the grandkids. So many memories on display for all to enjoy.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
