Summer Colors Tour

Well hello there, summer! So nice to see you again! Or, is it? Want me to be honest? I’ve always hated summer. Like hated it with a passion. I strongly dislike being hot, I have really thick naturally curly hair that doesn’t get along with this season, and St. Louis humidity is brutal! Fall will always have my heart, but, you guys, I’m kind of digging the start of this summer already. Who am I?

Since Missouri is trying her hardest to skip over spring and fall nowadays, I am trying to make amends with the weather we are left with. Extreme hot and extreme cold, sometimes both in the same day. Welcome to the Midwest! I decided that I am going to try my hardest to enjoy this summer, even if I am drenched in sweat, I’m going to make the best of it. And so far so good. Summer nights are my favorite though, sitting outside with the crickets and frogs, and a cool breeze after a long hot day. The best!

What better way to celebrate the beauty of summer than by joining some of my blogging friends in this Summer Colors Tour, hosted by my sweet friend Jennifer from Town and Country Living! If you are new here, welcome! Let’s get to it!

Summer Colors Tour - green in the guest bedroom

Let me start by saying, I am a neutrals girl for life! So adding color has always been a challenge for me. I have been on this kick lately with staying true to my style, so the color I added to our vintage inspired guest bedroom was a fun olive green. It’s natural, and goes along with the greenery I use, so it was easy to incorporate without it looking out of place.

I have had a huge love affair with this color for years and years, but was always so scared to play with it. I’ve been collecting finds in olive green hoping one day to finally put them all together or scatter them around my house for a pop of color.

My collection includes an antique green clock, an awesome old metal toolbox, and some vintage books. And greenery is a must in all spaces, so I added my favorite faux stems and potted plants too.

I love this oversized summer bag I found in the dollar spot at Target. I filled it with some stems and it now makes for a welcoming piece for the entry to our guest room.

  1. Love this! What is the height of the stool? We have an antique Jenny Lind bed and am having the hardest time finding a nightstand that breaks up the wood.

  2. I know this post is old but I had to say I just love all of this! I love the same colors and tones, Browns, greens, black, and neutrals and I love how you use them in your home. A lot of people have gone to strictly white on white on white so I really enjoy seeing your posts 🙂

  3. Hi, Ashley! A quick question….the eucalyptis in your photos looks gorgeous and I love the lighter green color in them. Where did you find them?
    Everything looks great!

  4. Love your collection of green for the summer. The toolbox is very cool and so are your greens.

I am not a fan of summer either because I don’t enjoy the sweat either. I have embraced it because it comes no matter what. I have learned to deal and enjoy, no one likes a mope.

    Have a super week

  5. I love the color of green you have. It is refreshing while you are waiting out the summer heat. I always find my way to blues as I live in Florida. But you have given me a different color for the dog days of summer. I know what you mean about the hair. Now that I am 75, the best way I can keep my frizz under control is keep it short. People say I love what you have done to your hair. Actually, my hair has a mind of its own. I see how my daughter and granddaughter story straightened their hair and it would make the rest of my hair completely lose any oil it might have. The older you get the drier skin and hair get.
Enjoy your summer, love the crickets Sound at night.

  6. I love that your were able to add such great pops of green without going against your true love of neutrals. I love what you did with the Target bags…just one example of your creativeness!

  7. I also love your style. Every “vignette” looks perfect to me. Love your photos.
I pull out pastel pottery and all my blue Mason jars for spring & summer. My 1959 ranch is styled more like a cottage. Fall season has more orange, red, browns, greens. Winter has white with some silver.

  8. Ashley, you did a great job of adding olive green to the space while remaining true to your love of neutral decor. LOVE that adorable antique clock. And by the way – I love your thick curly hair! Thanks so much for joining the tour this week!

  9. Good Morning Ashley!! Thank you for giving us a Summer Colors Tour filled with inspiration and home design ideas! I love the pops of olive green you have added to your home and just ADORE your neutral, vintage, and inspiring palette SO much! It’s my favorite!! Would you mind sharing where you get your greenery – specifically – the eucalyptus stems you use throughout your home? I would like to replicate some of your welcoming and fresh ideas!!! Gratefully.
