Pumpkin Palooza Bloggers

If you are new here, or are visiting from Setting for Four & Anderson and Grant, thanks so much for taking the time to come stop by! My name is Ashley and I hope we can be friends! You’ll learn quickly that I am completely obsessed with Fall, so when I was invited to participate in Pumpkin Palooza I pretty much signed on as soon as I read P-u-m-p-k…done deal! I love pumpkins! Who doesn’t? And I love a good DIY, so this was the perfect combo.

Pumpkin Plate Chargers. Natural wood plate chargers

Today I am sharing these easy, wood DIY Pumpkin Plate Chargers! A few weeks ago when I posted my Farmhouse Fall Home Tour, my dining room table was missing a good fall table scape setting. What better way to celebrate this beautiful season than to add some natural elements to our farmhouse table…in the shape of pumpkins!

Supplies Needed:

  • 2 21/32in x 16in x 6ft Paint Graded Panel
  • Pencil
  • Kraft Paper
  • Circular Saw
  • Jig Saw
  • Hand Sander or Sand Block
  • Wood Stain
  • Wood Shims
  • Wood Glue
  • Fall Embellishments

Since our farmhouse table is stained dark, I wanted to find a really pretty wood that I could use a lighter stain on to really bring out the natural grain. I found these gorgeous paint graded panels that I knew would work great for the look I wanted.

First, I used my circular saw (or jigsaw) to cut 6 square pieces to 13 inches in length for each plate setting. Then, I cut a piece of Kraft paper I pulled from my wrapping paper stash to each squares exact measurements. I traced one of my plates upside-down in the middle of the paper to use as a guide when determining what measurement each charger needed to be.

I folded the paper in half vertically, freehanded half of a pumpkin on one side, and cut it so that when I unfolded it I would have a perfectly congruent pumpkin stencil. Once I had my pumpkin cutout, I traced it onto each 16in x 13in wood square.

I used a jigsaw to cut each pumpkin shape. After all six pumpkins were cut, I used a hand sander to sand all of the edges smooth, then applied my light wood stain and let it dry.

To make the pumpkin stems, I stained some wood shims that I found at our local hardware store a dark stain, then used my jigsaw to cut the ends off to give a more rustic, ripped from the vine look. I attached them to each pumpkin plate charger with wood glue.

To dress up my new creation, I added some fall leaves, and even turned them into easy nametags with some letter stamps and white ink I already had!

I absolutely love how they turned out, and how they go so well with my neutral, natural fall dining room! They were super easy to make, and will be so festive for any fall and Thanksgiving gatherings we have at our home. I hope you like them!
